First off, so sorry for the burning eyes from the donut shop!

Thanks for coming everyone!

Happy Halloweeeeeen!
Time to get your Boo on and share some spine chilling tales! Here are a few that others mentioned they like to tell:
BaBa YaGa and Vasilisa, Drucilla and the Broom, The Flying Head, Wiley and the Hairy Man, and Boney Legs….
There are some great scary stories at the library in the Storytelling collection and don’t miss the cd’s
Favorite scary stories of American children: grades K-3 and Favorite scary stories of American children: grades 4-6.

Second Language learners in the classroom?
Several of you have mentioned the need for tales with second language learners in mind. I brought a couple of resources to look at that are bilingual and ways to infuse a story with vocabulary in another language. Ginny pointed out that jesters and use of your body movement is important when telling to second language learners too. Do ask the students how to say something to involve them when you can. The use of pictures can be helpful for introducing new things, places and animals that they might not know. (This is good for all students) The library has a great selection of bilingual books and books in other languages. Jo Hayes is a great storyteller who uses Spanish in his stories. One great way to include kids from other counties is to tell stories from their part of the world. If you want more examples come see me at the library!

I have some cd’s from the festival that I’m glad to share with you

2019 National Storytelling Festival
Marianne and Sherry went to the National Storytelling Festival in Tennessee and heard some amazing storytellers! The good news is the Timpanogos Storytelling Festival that is held annually on the weekend after Labor Day at Thanksgiving Point in Lehi, Utah is right up there with this national event.

If you would like to hear some of the storytellers I have listed the websites below.

Carolina was Sherry’s favorite and Marianne loved Eth-Noh-Tec , we both loved Donna Washington and Mara Menzies. Musically it doesn’t get much better than listening to Sam Payne or Josh Goforth. So have a listen and dig around the websites there are all kinds of good bits to find.

Congratulations to Marianne for telling at the festival! Next time it will be front and center under the tent!
