Happy Valentine’s Day! Spread the stories, Spread the Love!
-
First off! Best Wishes to Bob in his recovery from recent surgery! Hope you are feeling better Bob!
-
Spellbinders started January with a visit to Steamboat Rotary.
- Sherry and Sarah shared stories with about 60 in attendance.
-
Our mid-year meeting for breakfast had 10 in attendance.
- We talked about Spellbinder Cards that we could hand out to new potential tellers and during events for interested people
- We organized for tellers to tell at Casey’s pond on Feb. 8th and again on April 3rd for 2nd graders and their partners there (more on Casey’ Pond to follow)
- We discussed a Spring event for April 19th at Bud Werner Library Hall with a theme of Native American and Earth Stories.
- We also talked about a possible event next Earth Day (April 2018) to bring Odds Bodkin and Martin Oden to a community wide event that will involve other organizations and grant writing
- We also chatted about the new membership costs shared feeling as to what it means to belong to Spellbinders. We hope to get Catherine to Steamboat to further the discussion.

Casey’s Pond Opportunities!
- Mike, David, Meme and Sherry told stories on Feb 8th and had a blast! The stories were well received and enjoyed! We learned a few things to use in the future such as placing the audience directly in front and avoiding the sides for hearing purposes. Speaking up is really important to an audience who often has hearing issues. I think the variety of stories was really done well with the group and will be important for future visits. We talked about the timing of our stories, morning verses afternoon, and plan to try morning at 10:30 for the next visit.

We have been invited back!
- Depending on availability of our group we can make monthly or every other month visits with a theme of our choosing. March would be great for Irish tales, April we could bring Native American stories we are preparing for our Event, May could be spring? Well, you get the picture. Cathy Reese has given us dates to choose from: Monthly 1 hr Storytelling Session on a theme.
• 2nd Wednesday of the month at 2 pm
• 2nd or 3rd Thursday of the month at 10:30 am
• Rotate every other month
• For example, Wednesday Feb 8 at 2 pm, Thursday March 9 at 10:30 am, Wednesday April 12 at 2 pm, Thursday May 11 at 10:30 am, etc. -
Info Session in March about the Art of Storytelling
I am going over on Tuesday, March 21 at 10:30 am to do an introduction to storytelling for residences interested in telling stories.
I spoke to Cathy about a writing program that Dagny was interested in doing and a memory program that Kirsti would like to do. I sent her your contact information and she will contact you. -
Mark your calendars for April 19th! 4-5pm for our Native American stories and Earth Tales.
- Let me know if you are interested in participating and if you have a story or would like one to be chosen for you. (or to choose from a couple)
