Happy November!

We had a great turnout for our coffee and tales at Mountain Brew on October 19th. Thanks to all who were able to come. One of the important discussions center around the Spellbinder dues that everyone recently received in the mail. Questions arose regarding how the dues would benefit our chapter. We’d love to hear everyone’s thought about the new dues. After thinking about what comments were shared at the meeting I was left with the following reasons I supported donating to Spellbinders. I value what the organization does to support oral storytelling in my community. Belonging to Spellbinders gives us a higher profile and is beneficial when we are recruiting new tellers. It also provides the training materials used in our training. It is up to you to decide, but I look at it not as dues but a donation to promote and support the organization. Having said that, I appreciate all the time and effort everyone contributes in sharing their stories in the community. That is what counts above all else.
We are looking to plan a couple new events this year as well. At out next meeting in January we will gather to focus on Science stories to share and talk about a venue around Native American Stories we could do around Earth Day.

oddsOdds Bodkin Workshop November 4th

Marianne and Sherry attended the Odds Bodkin workshop in Broomfield entitled: The Door to Imagination, How to Awaken Your Inner Storyteller.
He focused on the five sensory Imaginations as a technique to learning new stories. We did an exercise in which we listen to a story and were asked to determine if we were the director or a witness as we visualized the story. We will talk about some of these ideas at our next meeting but check out the video posted below to get a feel for this amazing storyteller.

Alert! Event Opportunity!

Cindy Gantick is heading down on Wednesday November 9, to hear Odds Bodkin at CU Boulder tell Earth Stories. It will be remarkable as he is telling with a CU professor who will be the Science end and he will be the Stories that now reflect Earth as it undergoes current climate changes. If you are interested in going with Cindyu she is leaving at 3:15 pm. Contact her at Soda Creek Elementary or email her at cgantick@ssk12.org.

Here is a story he shared at the Workshop:
