Spellbinder Minutes September 2016
In attendance: Bob, Sherry, John, Sarah, Celia, Sherrie, David, Karolyn, Mike, Kirstie and Marianne.
Spellbinder Business
Welcome went out to John, Dagny and Kristin. John was pinned with his official Spellbinder badge and Dagny and Kristin who were unable to attend, will be given their badges waiting for them at the library.
* Here are a few Stats from last year for our chapter: 4 schools, 54 classrooms, 2 libraries, 1 Senior center and told at both Rotary and Kiwanis, for a total of 1,373 individuals and an audience of 7,383 in our programs and classroom visits!
* Treasurer Report was given by Bob Grover currently still have little over $90
Spellbinder dues has been a topic for the National organization and we discussed it at the meeting. I have attached the letter that was sent to the Larimer Chapter. I plan to take the questions that were raised and talk to Catherine. I will follow up with what I find out.

Reminders for the classrooms:
- E-mail group with first visit to your classroom so new tellers can shadow
- Remember to wear your Spellbinder Name Tag
- Make sure your teacher has your contact information
- Keep track of stories told this year
(Build a list of stories to share with each other see website: You check out previous year lists on the website: http://steamboatspellbinders.org/resources/ - Remember to ask teachers if there is any special needs or concerns in class
- Students who may have special needs
- Topics that are sensitive due to religious beliefs (holidays?)
- Special themes or topics in what months that might have curriculum connections to stories you choose
Back to school story ideas
- Thank you to Sarah for sharing the transition activities and for all the suggestions from others Storytelling connections and extensions!
- Transitions include movement, games, Riddles and Jokes, Rap stories String stories, Cut and tell, Draw and tell and songs
- New on our Steamboat Spellbinder Website: Posted are the stories shared in 2015-16 school year and a new resource that has 1001 audio stories called The Story Museum.
Meeting schedule for the year?
We will again meet for coffee again this year to get together and Mike Forney suggested having topics, or themes that make it more like a workshop. So please send in your requests or ideas that you would like to see at our meeting.
School Connections
- Ideas for curriculum connections for grade levels (list of topics to consider)
- Notebook at schools to sign in and track hours (It will include a school map to find teachers and has a calendar you can take to check for upcoming school closures)

Come throw your name in a hat and see if it gets drawn and you can share a tale. Or just sit back and listen to other Spellbinders storytellers spin yarns - Things to think about for the year ahead for storytellers and their telling of tales: Senior telling Opportunities? Middle School, Boys and girl club, Library?
If you are interested in teaming to go to a middle school class once this year to tell to a 6th grade class let me know.
