Minutes from October 1st meeting at Ristretto Coffee Lounge

We had our first “Coffee Tales,” today and had a great turnout with 12 tellers in attendance!

We chatted about the many different styles and ways each of us begin and end our stories and some helpful ways to transition between stories.

Ideas passed around included:

  • Background information (place, time, qualities of an animal in the story)
    Story pot with kindness rock
Use of necklace that gets hot if kids get too wild
A phase that indicates a story is about to begin and another that is used as a closing
There are many examples in our training notebook

    For example:
Once, long long ago, at least 3 weeks before any of you were born….
Now that’s a true story. And if it;s not, if should be!

    Yoga poses and stretches
    Deep breathing to settle kids

Clapping rhythm that kids repeat back
Using a song or poem between stories that fits with your program
Using quick draw and tell, or cut and tell , or string story

We also talked about adding a few new resources to the website so take a look under the Resource Page.
I added a few websites and will get those cut and tell up by next week.

On another note… Telling opportunities await!

The Senior Center at the Community Center would love to have a teller at their lunch time meeting. If you would like to tell to adults let me know!

And….. We still have a few teachers who would love to invite you in to tell. If you are interested let me know!
