Who We Are

Spellbinders is a group of volunteers dedicated to restoring the art of oral storytelling. We are grandparents, retired teachers and business professionals. Our goal is to connect elders and youth, weaving together the wisdom of cultures throughout time.

What We Do

Volunteer Spellbinders are assigned a local elementary school classroom to visit once a month over the course of the school year. Spellbinders tell folktales and stories in the oral tradition to connect with young people and share the love of story.

Get Involved

Do you want to learn to tell fun and engaging stories to children? To become a Spellbinder, interested volunteers must attend a three-day Storytelling Workshop at the Bud Werner Memorial Library. The Steamboat Spellbinders Workshop is offered annually in August.
